At Washington Trust Bank, keeping your private financial information secure is one of our most important responsibilities – one that we take very seriously. We hold your information in the utmost confidence and place well-defined limits on its use.

By strictly monitoring access to your information, we can help safeguard you against identity theft and fraud. It’s just one more example of our commitment to providing you with quality, comprehensive financial services.

Our Privacy Commitment
  • We will safeguard, according to strict standards of security and confidentiality, any information our customers share with us.
  • We will disclose the sources of the nonpublic personal information we collect.
  • We will tell you what measures we take to secure that information.
  • We will restrict access to nonpublic personal information about you to employees who need to know that information to provide products or services to you.
  • We will maintain physical, electronic and procedural safeguards that comply with federal standards to guard your nonpublic personal information.
  • We will not disclose your nonpublic personal information to nonaffiliated third parties, except as permitted by law.
  • We will not disclose nonpublic personal information about former customers, except as permitted by law.

Safeguarding Your Information

Washington Trust Bank customers can rest assured that, unlike some other institutions, we will never sell, rent or lease your information to a third-party direct marketing organization. We may, however, use the information we receive from you to advise you about our own products, services and policies.

We occasionally use outside companies to help perform these marketing services on our behalf. We also occasionally partner with other financial service providers in which we have joint marketing agreements. We may disclose nonpublic information as described below and as permitted by law to help us in this process. Whenever we hire or work with other organizations (such as bulk mailing vendors) to provide support services, we require that they conform to our privacy standards and allow us to audit them for compliance.

Nonpublic Information That We Collect

We collect nonpublic personal information about you from the following sources:

  • Applications or other forms- this includes information such as assets, income and other debt.
  • Transactions conducted with us- this includes information such as your account balance and payment history.
  • Transactions conducted with nonaffiliated third parties- this includes information such as verifying employment history.
  • Consumer reporting agencies- this includes information such as your credit history.

It's a Matter of Trust

Since 1902, our customers have trusted us to keep their confidential financial information private. We're committed to providing you information that enables you to make informed decisions about your financial future. This information will not, however, come at the expense of your privacy. That's what our privacy commitment is all about.

If you have questions about our privacy policy or how we reduce access to your personal data, call Priority Service at 800-788-4578.

Definition of Terms

We, our and us mean Washington Trust Bank. You and your refer to all of our consumer customers who have a continuing relationship with us, such as:

  • Deposit account
  • Loan account
  • Credit card
  • Safe deposit box
  • Retail installment contract we hold and service
  • Self-directed Individual Retirement Account where we act as custodian or trustee
  • Financial, investment or economic advisory services (for a fee)

Nonpublic personal information means information about you that we collect in connection with providing a financial product or service to you. Nonpublic personal information does not include information that is available from public sources, such as telephone directories or government records.

An affiliate is a company we own or control, a company that owns or controls us, or a company that is owned or controlled by the same company that owns or controls us. Ownership does not mean complete ownership, but means owning enough to have control.

A nonaffiliated third party is a company that is not an affiliate of ours.

Internet Privacy Statement

With the advent of OnLine Banking, the issue of privacy is more complicated but no less important. When you are online, you expect--and should receive-- the same degree of confidentiality as you would in one of our branches.

Understandably, there is a great deal of concern about what happens with information that is collected online. Here is some information you may find helpful:

E-mail

If you use e-mail to contact us, some information about you will be communicated, including your e-mail address. If your full name and business name appear in the header of your message that will be communicated as well.

We will only use the information that comes to us via your e-mail message to respond to your comments or questions. We will not sell it, nor will we share it with parties outside the bank, except as required by law or regulation.

Tracking Software

Like most companies with websites, we use tracking software to collect information about visitors to our site. It tells us the name of the domain from which you access the Internet (such as AOL.com, att.net, or your local ISP) as well as the date and time of your visit to our site. The software cannot gather information about individuals, only about visitors in the aggregate. We use this information to understand the hours when people are most likely to visit and determine the areas of the site most often visited.

Online Account Applications

We offer you the opportunity to apply online for some types of products and services. Any information you provide us in the process of applying will be used only to determine your eligibility for the product or service, and to set up the account. Your information will be treated in accordance with the privacy principles discussed above.

Changes to this statement may be made at any time. We will indicate any changes by posting a new privacy statement on this site. Please enjoy your visit to watrust.com and if we can be of any service to you, please let us know.
