About Security

  1. How can I be sure my financial information will be safe?
Washington Trust's OnLine Banking service utilizes the most current Web security features recommended for secure Internet transactions. We use:
    • 128-bit encryption
    • Unique login, User ID and Password
    • Timeout settings will automatically end your session after 10 minutes of inactivity. If you wish, you can shorten the length of the timeout setting using the Settings option.

  2. What is encryption?
Encryption was developed for military use in order to protect the privacy and security of information. On the Internet, it is used to scramble the content of a message before it is sent. 128-bit encryption is the strongest form of commercial encryption available. There are billions of possible keys available to unscramble your unique message, and every time you start a new session a new key is randomly selected.

  3. Will all my transactions be encrypted?
Yes. All Washington Trust OnLine Banking transmissions are encrypted and secure.

  4. Will my e-mail be encrypted?
Every e-mail message you send from the bank e-mail screens in OnLine Banking sessions will be encrypted. E-mail sent from other sections of the Washington Trust Web site is not encrypted.

  5. What if I forget my password or enter it incorrectly?
You have two options if you forget your password. You may choose to set up your personal validation information online, in which case you can retrieve your password by answering a series of questions only you will know the answers to. Or, you may request that we reset your password for you. You will find both options on the OnLine Banking login page.

If you are unable to log in, you may contact Washington Trust's Priority Service for assistance.
