Even if you have never thought about working for a bank before, Washington Trust could provide you with a rewarding career. Being a regional, privately-owned business sets us apart from many banks in the area; it gives us the flexibility to empower our employees to learn and develop, both professionally and personally, without the influence of external stockholders.
Washington Trust is passionate about providing the best for our communities through high-quality, individualized banking services and community sponsorships and volunteering. If you are a community-minded individual who is looking for a career with a business focused on ethics and hard work, check out our job openings.
Caring more about the well being of our customers and employees than our quarterly profits.
Since opening our doors in 1902, we have been driven to provide the highest level of quality service and financial stability to our customers and employees. We were built with an ethical, sustainable business model that has proven the test of time. When banks were closing their doors during the Great Depression, we kept ours open. When there were mass layoffs during the 2008 recession, we had none. We believe that long-term goals are more important than quarterly profits, and this has contributed to our success. Just as our customers have been trusting us with their financial decisions for more than a century, our employees have trusted us with helping them achieve their career goals, and we have a proven record of providing both.
Helping you succeed in all aspects of your life.
We believe that work should be an important part of your life, but we understand that it is not your whole life. Through our wellness program and our commitment to work-life balance, we offer a variety of ways to focus on your health and happiness. Through our work-life balance program we offer discounts to various events and activities in the community including discounted lift tickets to several of our local ski resorts, discounted movie tickets, discounted concert tickets and more. Through our wellness program we offer incentives for staying healthy through wellness competitions, and events. We also provide self-care resources, educational workshops on personal health, overall health risk assessments, and more.
A commitment to recruit and retain the most qualified individuals in the industry.
Washington Trust Bank is committed to providing professional development and training opportunities for our valued employees. We offer several formal training programs as well as personalized one-on-one coaching and development for employees in both leadership and non-leadership positions.

This is a leadership boot camp for nominated, high-potential employees. The course emphasizes the application of principles in areas such as communication, persuasion, decision making, applying your personal assessment results to leadership and collaboration. It blends live instruction with real-life management challenges, developing skills and gaining experience to prepare participants for a leadership role at the Bank.
Women in Leadership
Women in Leadership is a professional development series that blends online content with group facilitation. Washington Trust Bank curates the content which includes world renown speakers, best-selling authors, and successful leaders. The course also includes group activities, a speaker series of subject matter experts, cross-functional networking opportunities, and accountability groups to promote and enhance the learning experience.
Relationship Manager Development (RMD) Program
Washington Trust Bank is developing a training program for future Commercial and Relationship Managers – starting from the ground up. The robust program admits a cohort of applicants each year, based on succession and retirement-planning forecasts in our Commercial Banking and Wealth Management divisions. Applicants accepted into the program will start as Relationship Manager Trainees and at the end of the program they can earn a position as an Associate Relationship Manager.
Aimed at promoting excellence in our Financial Concierges, this program covers the technical aspects of the job, as well as the skills of effectively dealing with our most important goal, outstanding customer service.
Washington Trust Bank is committed to a total compensation package (base pay, benefits and, where appropriate, incentive and/or bonus plans) because we know employees are the key to our competitiveness in our markets. To that end, we offer total compensation opportunities competitive to our labor market peers in order to ensure we recruit and retain the most qualified individuals.
