Shred Day: A Simple Step to Prevent Identify Theft and Safeguard Your Information

featured
Now in its 9th year, Shred Days provide an easy way to properly dispose of sensitive documents and help protect individuals, families, and businesses from identity theft. In its most recently available data, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) reports consumers lost more than $12.5 billion to fraud in 2024. That year, identity theft ranked as the number two most reported category of fraud. And the available data for 2025 has identify theft as the top fraud attempt in 2025, making up 25% of reports to the FTC.

Shredding sensitive items such as legal documents, tax records, and old bills is a practical and easy way to safeguard against identity theft and other fraud attempts. And it’s important to realize that fraud can happen to anyone. While older Americans tend to lose more when falling victim to fraud, younger people report more often losing money to fraud than older people. So, taking steps to prevent identity theft is something we all should do, no matter our walk of life.

Shred Day participants can bring up to one bankers/paper box of documents to a participating location and documents will be disposed of on-site using a shred truck. Mark your calendar for the next Shred Day event in your area:

In addition to being incredibly effective, shredding is also a lot of fun and satisfying. Our local teams are there to assist you in unloading and dumping your documents, so you can shred too.
